Here’s the latest poker news courtesy of 32Red Poker:

As Russian authorities seem determined to make playing poker incredibly difficult in their own country, near neighbours Ukraine appear happy to welcome the card game we all love so much.

The European Poker Tour were forced to cancel their Russian leg of the tour due to a change in legislation in the country. A hastily arranged Ukraine leg was announced and the EPT regulars travelled to Kiev to take their chances at a Season 6 EPT title.

Russians, hungry for some high stakes poker tournament action following the closure of casinos and poker rooms in their native country, flocked to Kiev to take part. The majority of the field consisted of Russian and Ukrainian players so it was little surprise to see one of those professionals take the title. Step forward Maxim Lykov from Moscow. Lykov was simply too good for the final table here. He showed aggression and patience in equal parts, beyond his 21 years, to take the €330,000 winners cheque and the EPT Kiev title.

The final ten from Kiev looked like this:

1 – Maxim Lykov, Russia, €330,000
2 – Alexander Dovzhenko, Ukraine, €220,000
3 – Vitaly Tolonnikov, Russia, €140,000
4 – Arthur Simonyan, Russia, €100,000
5 – Lucasz Plichta, Poland, €80,000
6 – Adrian Schaap, Holland, €60,000
7 – Torsten Tent, Germany, €45,000
8 – Vadim Markushevski, Belarus, €30,000
9 – Michael Meyburg, Germany, €23,000
10 – Alexey Maslov, Russia, €23,000
