what hapened? were the blinds capped after all? I was eliminated early in the tournament
, and what’s the news about the increase by elimination percentages?
Hi Wolf, I’m working on capping blinds but I’ll need a bit more time for this. I’ll post the percentage elimination system this evening…
Hi Wolf,
Basically, we can setup blind-levels to go up after x% of players have been eliminated. For example, if we set it to increase the blinds every 10% of the players are eliminated, every time 10% of the remaining field are eliminated, the blind levels goes up.
Thanks Nick for the update , so it’s basicly something like the survivour sistem but insted of eliminating players when the blinds go up , the blinds go up when the players get eliminated.
well with such a sistem I guess the end of the rebuy period will we will have 10/20 blinds or 15/30
, so strange , but an excelent value to make rebuy+addonafter 60 minutes if you have <2500 chips
but I made some calculations that worry me , you say “every time 10% of the REMAINING field are eliminated, the blind levels goes up.”
if the 10% is calculated by truncation then the levels would be such:
100 90 81 73 66 60 54 49 45 41 37 34 31 28 26 24 22 20 18
that means with 18 players left we will have level 19 blinds 5000/10000 wich means an average stack will have less than 2 BB :O , it would be like a 1 chip tournament
if the 10% is calculated by rounding the number to the closest integer the levels:
100 90 81 73 66 59 53 48 43 39 35 31 28 25 22 20 18 16 14
wich means in 14 players we would have a similar situation as the one above
if the 10% is calculated by rounding the number to the highest integer [x+1,x):
100 89 80 71 63 56 50 44 39 35 31 27 24 21 18 16 14 12 10
than the last 10 players will have a similar situation with an average of about 3BB and maybe a chipleader of 7-10BB at most
any of theese situations are far worse than the current format
if the elimination would be not calculated from the remaining players but from the original total number as in survivour tournaments than the final level or the final table would be lvl 10 400/800 , wich would be quite a nice final table with alot of play in it , but an extreeeeeemly long and strange tournament
but maybe wortth a try once
another alternative would be an increase at 20% of the remaining field rounded to the higest (x+1,x] :
100 80 64 50 40 32 24 18 14 10 8 6 4 2
wich would be quite a nice structure , with the final 8 on lvl 11 with a 500/1000 blind , would be an interesting final table , but a veryyyy slow start , maybe worth a try once too
I still think the blind structure I proposed would be a better idear (I know it’s the 1 bilion’th time i say this
) , but there is a reason why blinds grow by a number of minutes , to put pressure on the players , and to control the player field by ammount of time , what i propossed gives a slower start than the current one but a greater value for the player on RB+AD , a normal play in the middle section of the tournament, and a normal play at the end compared with the turbo play currently at the end
pff were is everyone, we need more opinions
blind capping still a posible temporary solution
wow, thanks Wolf, your feedback is well noted, thanks!
I agree that the percentage elimination system should be shelved for now. I’ll continue looking into capping the blinds – this shouldn’t be a problem but may take some time to implement.
You’re right, where did everyone go?
Perhaps the players that viewed this page may have been put off if their ant-virus showed 2 x virus when you had the prob last week, if these players are not aware of the fix they may not want to risk viewing this page.
Like wolf says 10% player elimination structure would not work, 20% seems fine to me though, its a risky one as most players don’t read anything and all hell could break loose if they don’t understand what the changes mean….etc.
The current format is fine in my view, just need to cap the blinds at a level we agree on…..8000 / 4000 or 10000 / 5000 I would say or thereabouts with the current starting stack and 100 or so runners…..250k of chips in play at start say about 500 to 600k after re-buys and add ons….so say 3 x players left could have 200k each and have around 20 big blinds to play some poker….
Sounds good to me, can we agree on where the cap should be and I’ll sort it out?
I think Wolf will say lower than me, which would be fine by me as well…..but from experience I know some players will moan if they think the structure is too slow…..
So we have to get the balance right I think that will suit most.
Nick, how many chips have been in play after the rebuy and addons have finished when we have had 100 players last few weeks?
With that info I think we can gauge the sort of area the cap should be….
If we go too low then 3 handed and heads up could last all night….
Nick,
Just noticed the 3rd bounty this week is showing as $50 and not the usual $75…..
hi james , did you manage after all to get rid of those chinese viruses?
, They didn’t botter me yet , I think wolf’s are immune
I vote for lvl 17 3000/6000 , wich would give an average of 20BB in top 4 , 25-28BB top 3 , and 40 at HU , wow you could actualy be able to 3bet at the HU like this
20% elimination structure is fine but as james said people have to be notified before the tournament , spam for everybody
I think it is good as it is with cap of the blinds on FT or when its 20 players left
As you know I am not a fan of re-buys and add-ons and preferred the BTB when it was a freeze-out. That said I appreciate that in order to provide good prize money for a modest outlay on a continuing basis, the current format is necessary. However, by capping the blinds the tourney will surely take us deep into the night and us grandads need our beauty sleep.
On a different note one or two newcomers seem to bring their micro cash game manners and abuse to the table and whilst I am no shrinking violet and am well used to being on the wrong end of a bad beat it is a pity that some players cannot be more gracious when lady luck contrives to turn against them.
No names, no pack drill but anyone who raises with Q,9 off-suit should not be surprised when an old buffer decides to call with 10,9 suited then flops two pair.
See you Saturday
malcb
452,500 chips in play last tourney James
Hi Guys, I’ve sneakily adapted the prizepool to include the bounty prizes as well, in the hope that it will encourage some more signups, hope that’s ok. We are afterall guaranteeing $3K + $300 in prizes – I just lowered the $75 bounty to $50 so keep things tidy.
Malcb, I’d very much like to revert to the freezeout ways, but I’m glad you understand why it has become necessary to add the extra rebuys. We do however try to compensate with longer blind levels and larger starting chips, which I hope helps a little to keep the game structure under control.
I have to agree somewhat with your views on capping the tournament, as I too feel that it would spoil the ‘ending’ if it started to drag on a bit too much. But I’m curious about how it would turn out so I’m happy to give it a try.
As I’ve said before, the BtB tournament was built for you guys ‘by’ you guys, so please feel free to suggest any changes or ways in which we may continue to improve on it.
hehe james knew I will say lower than him , just 1 lvl
, sorry , deepstack fan
, I don’t think capping the blinds so late into the game will affect to much the overall time of the tournament , probably 30-45 minutes extra for the winner and runner-up , if the cards are running realy dry (I have had hour long HU matches at the end of tourneys , wich I don’t realy mind
, but we were kinda deepstaked and my oponents were realy tight).
) like a cash game , wich isn’t good for anybody , lets just try this blind capping thing once ans see how it goes
capping lower however will make the tournament neverending
“I think it is good as it is with cap of the blinds on FT or when its 20 players left” this is a case of a neverending game, sorry m8 I would like some more play in top 20 too but it will take us all night as in 8-5-3-2 players will have the same blind level
(!warining, if you heard this 1 billion times before skip to the end
)
I still think changing the blind levels (or adding some levels) , will add about an hour to the play , but play would be nicer, blind capping would’nt be necesary anymore , and it would loosen the play
if players think the tournament lasts too long into the night in any of the cases , you could schedual the tournament one more hour earlier
.
Hi wolf, seems like the chinese virus is a thing of the past!….lol
The reason I play poker is for enjoyment so to me its nice for a change to have a final table where you can play at least some poker and not just fold or shove…..so def worth a try capping the blinds and see how it goes….
Once I get to the stage where I am bored and can’t wait for a torny to finish is the day I stop playing.
Having said that as Malcb says most dont want it going on all night which is fair enough.
As Nick mentioned that with the current structure even players like malcb who preferred freezeout can see its not a crazy torny with the starting chips and blind levels….
Having been playing here for years and can remember Malcb from day one I know he is a gentleman and can understand his frustration of some peoples attitude….
Trouble is the chat is run by micro gaming and they are very inconsistent to say the least!!!….even a few weeks ago Nick the poker manager here was warned by the micro poker manager in chat not to spam as his chat would be disabled!!!…all Nick was doing was trying to tell us about this blog site!!….lol
To highlight the inconsistency I mentioned a few weeks ago in this torny some people started chatting in a non English language and when peeps complained the micro PM said its a private game and you can do what you like!!!!!….lol
So armed with that info I called a guy a rude word and got threatened that my chat would be disabled!!!…I was only trying to wind him up and put him on TILT….whats the harm in that???….lol
