$2.7K Be the Bounty, 16/01/10 Results..
It appears that a bigger guaranteed prize pool and an earlier starting time has increased the tournament’s value as only 79 players took to the felt in last night’s $2.7K Be the Bounty weekly tournament. Thanks to all your feedback we changed the number of starting chips to 2500, offered 15 minute blinds as opposed to the previous 12 minutes and paid the top 10 places instead of top 8. With your ideas and suggestions we hope to offer a unique Saturday tournament with great value, so please keep posting your feedback and remember - one lucky blog poster will receive a free BtB ticket each week!
Congratulations to hashhh, GARRISON and Razzi for placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively, they’ll each receive 1000 free Redbacks as long as they turn up to play next Saturday’s BtB game. Let’s check last night’s results…

I favour the changes made with the earlier start although i did’nt know till I came to register at 9.00. so had to go on the waiting list for 10 mins. Were any emails sent out about the changes as d have played who usually register nearer 9.30?
Well paly to all who cashed, but must say my table was totally ruined by the donk who kept going allin EVERY hand and was up to 38k before the break with some horrific winning allins, had to be seen to be believed. It just goes to show you make these improvement changes but cant cant compensate for idiots like that who totally ruined it for some of us, well at least he somehow managed not to cash!!
Lets hope next week is different.

I played against this guy too, he was all in every hand. Yes, he got lucky many times, but is this a problem? I doubled with KK, another player doubled with AA. I like the 15-min structure and the earlier start. I wonder if the rebuy period is 1 hour the prize pool would be bigger. After 90 mins the average shortstack was 9-10k and the addon wasn’t necessary for most of the players.
January 17th, 2010 at 8:34 pm
I did mention it would be a good idea to send emails about the new start time in last weeks blog….I saw a few players comments in chat saying they were caught out so that may have cost us some number of players…
I think the format was much better and it needs a few weeks to really see if people like it or not, if we keep changing things every week we may not get an idea if people like it or not….
The donk you was on about came to my table shortly before the addon, he did same thing all in every hand and got up to 48k and then donked the lot 10 mins after the addon….he could have just sat out and got on final table…..
I think it was Nick playing as a bot to get some re-buy and addon action!!!….lol (only joking).

hahaha, I think yous are on to me lol - just kidding… if I had played, I would have most certainly come 1st, or 2nd at worst.
We shall be notifying all players as soon as the tournament hits $3K at which point we shall review the tournament cost and decide whether to reduce the guarantee, keep it at 3K, or continue increasing it - so make sure to tell your friends and acquaintances about our fantastic value tournament and let’s get those numbers up!
This Saturday’s changes are:
- 1 hour rebuys (unlimited)
- Payout Structure
0-30 = 3 places
31-50 = 5 places
51-150 = 10 places
151-250 = 20 places …and so on
By the way, we’ve upgraded the Poker Room today with new features including:
- Tournament Tickets
- Multi Prizes per position
- Playcheck improvements

Hi _FEAR_ME_,
As requested, the 90 minute rebuy period is now a thing of the past and I hope 60 minutes will suit all players much better. As for our all-in friend, isn’t he (or she) every poker player’s dream oponent?
I went back to check your last few blog posts and I see that you requested that we run some 32Red-exclusive tournaments during the week. As you may already have noticed, there are some new poker features, one of them being “Tournament Tickets”. Based on these tickets, I am looking to offer some sort of daily/weekly/monthly league so if any of you have any ideas, now’s the time to clear your throat…

I must be a speciel player, when I like most freezeout-tournements.
Will there be freezeouts-tours too or just tours for these kemikazeplayers.
January 18th, 2010 at 9:48 pm
well i think nick we should have a €5 freezeout on a friday or a sunday every week so that would start the league off. but they will come on here and complain the buy in is to high .the day is wrong its to close to the bounty game or it should be a rebuy or somthing else .thats all and thank you for your reply
January 18th, 2010 at 10:36 pm
I like freezeouts too lapepe, and there are plenty of them on the lobby
I’ll see if we can organise some 32Red-exclusive freezeouts this month.
I am happy to experiment on different tournaments _FEAR_ME_ so all your suggestions and those of any other player will certainly be considered … it’s not all gloom and doom, this is a happy blog
January 20th, 2010 at 1:55 pm
don’t see what everyone is complaining about, someone is donating chips
you should be gratefull
yes it ruins the rest of the table play but it can give you a great advantage after you double up a few times, it just hapened that he was unusualy lucky that day , but that came to an end too , i was eliminated by him too, got greedy with my AK and fell into his 44 for a flip , basicly it’s my fault i didn’t wait for a better oportunity
i realy think “the maniac” would of played the same for rebuy and for freezout (i would like to mention this is the first time i see something like this at the BTB, so the new players shouldnt be alarmed) , actualy he would of had an advantage at a freezout as the eliminated players couldnt of fought back so many times
i like the change for 1 hour unlimited rebuys Nick , can you also addon after 60 minutes? with this change and the previous weeks settings i belive the tournament is just about perfect
one more thing , updates for the tournament should realy be sent via e-mail to the players every week , many players didn’ know about the starting time, or about the 90 minute rebuy period (alldough it is writen in the lobby
)
January 20th, 2010 at 2:07 pm
I hear ya BadWolfOne, I think we should have more maniacs at our tables!
Yes, there’ll be an add-on offered at the end of the break (Tip! Using the automated rebuy/addon feature eliminates any possibility of missing the addon timeframe).
Fair point about the email notifications - will get them sorted for the $3k.
January 20th, 2010 at 5:52 pm
I wonder as the prize money is increased should the bounty prizes be increased in proportion to the prize money, as now there may not be the same value in risking chips to take out a bounty with the increased prize pool….
Perhaps when you increase the prize pool 90% goes to that and 10% on the bountys to keep them proportionate to the prize pool…
And or have more bounty’s as if we increase the number of players there will be less chance of seeing a bounty each week to try and knock out.
Another idea I had was that maybe there could be 1 or more ‘mystery’ bountys where the players themselves don’t even know they are a bounty, this would require some software work as they would need to be randomly picked and also when someone knocked out a bounty a message should flash up or in chat to say congrats you have knocked out a bounty and and have won $xxx.
If its possible it could make it quite exciting when a player gets knocked out to see if he / she is a bounty or not and when you knock a player out and wait in anticipation to see if you have won a bounty….
I just think that this is a bounty torny after all and with the increased prize money we may lose focus on what the torny was meant to be and the bounty prizes may fade to insignificance if not increased as well…..

I like the changes, cya on saturday.

Thanks James. One thing to remember is that we’re not making any money out of this tournament as firstly, we do not meet the guaranteed prize pool, and secondly, bounty prizes of $325 would mean we’d need 325 players to break even on the cost (discounting network fees). Increasing the bounty prizes again would put us at an even bigger loss, so I’m afraid we’ll have to leave that for when the tournament gets much bigger.
Increasing the number of bounty players is certainly an idea, and I’m happy to discuss this further - although the $325 in bounty prizes would have to be shared between 5 (for example) players instead of 3.
Unfortunately we don’t have the technology at the moment to assign random secret bounties, but it’s a thought for the future!
Here’s an alternative - we could make every player a bounty, and award 50% (for example) of the player’s buyin as a bounty prize, and 50% towards the prize pool - although this has already been done before, so it wouldn’t be unique.
Don’t let me slow you down now, keep those ideas coming in - and that goes for anyone else, the more feedback the better chance we’ll continue to improve this tournament…
See you all on Saturday!

Thanks Nick,
Yeah I understand its not a money making torny for you, indirectly it probably is….
I dont see how it would cost you any more money if 10% of any prize increase went to the bounty prizes….ie when you increase the prize pool like you have done by $100 each time how would it cost you any more for $90 added to the prize pool and $10 to the bounty prizes?….still makes $100 increase…..
Doesn’t have to be 10% to the bounty prizes, it was just a figure I used, 2%, 5% whatever to just keep them in proportion that was all I meant.
The 50% thing you mention would be a bad idea in my view, I have played a number of them and they are just a bingo fest and I don’t play them anymore…
Shame about the secret bounty that might have been a lot of fun.
The structure of the torny is about right now I think with the 60min rebuy period and blind levels, I would like to see it stay like this for at least a few weeks to give enough time to see if its the right way to go….

nice idears james
my oppinions about the current subject:
-first of all the 50% prizepool 50% bounty on everyone , 100% no
these kind of tournaments are everywere, i never liked them , i like the current format , with top 3 becoming bounty , the prize on each is quite good concidering the buy-in , and it ensures every tournament will have 3 good players as bountys , a challange for the players, a challange for the bountys for back to back final tables, quite original tournament compared to fix bounty ones ore everyone’s a bounty ones
-more players with a bounty but smaller prizes, would minimize the interest for kicking them out, so another no
-random bountys seem more like a lottery , it is interesting , but dosn’t help the game
-more bountys? well 3 bountys for about 80 players seems about right , if you are a good player (and don’t have an unlucky day), you have a good chance to get to the top 30 , and as the bountys should be the best players of last week they should usualy be there too , that means about theres a good chance 3 out of the 4 tables will have a bounty , so a 3 in 4 chance to sit with a bounty at the table , thats how i see it , so for now the chances are good, over 120-150 players then 3 bountys would be quite low for a “Be The Bounty” tournament
I like that now the bountys are big enough to risk a big chunk of your stack to take them out, but small enough compared to the prize structure not to risk your tournament life with any 2 cards in a multiway pot just to kick out the bounty
January 21st, 2010 at 10:07 pm
or a prizepool $325 and $10 bounty on every player
January 22nd, 2010 at 10:56 am
Interesting ‘lapepe’ - any feedback on this, anyone?
Thanks again James, the long-term idea is to generate some fees (or at least to break even). As it stands - if we were to meet the guarantee - I would need 325 entrants each paying $1 in fees to cover the $325 additional bounty money. The more we add in bounty money, the harder it becomes for us to generate any positive fees - does it make sense?
Thanks BadWolfOne, I too think that we’ve hit a nice balance with bounty and guarantee money, and I’m not a huge fan of everyone’s a bounty tournaments either!

Thanks badwolf and Nick,
I agree the bounties are fine at the moment, I was just looking more to the future….
Yep I get you now Nick, thanks for explaining….
I assume that if we get big enough fields that hopefully with enough rebuys / addons to cover or go above the guaranteed prize money then possibly the bounty prizes could be increased then…..
I know of at least one player who stopped playing coz of the 90min thing, I suspect a few others did as well as there are some familiar names ‘missing’ from the past, so hopefully now its 60min those players will come back….
It may take a while for these players to realise the 90 min thing has gone, I guess some who don’t like rebuys wont be back, but this is the only way forward to increase the prize pool…
Another idea I had was to cap the blinds at a certain level, sometimes when say 4 players left even the chip leader is short stacked and its all in or fold time, I guess with 80 players and likely amount of rebuys / addons capping the blinds at 10000 / 5000 or thereabouts….
I think Lapepe idea is interesting but I wouldnt want to change to torny too much from its original….
Perhaps a good idea for a mid-week torny though..
January 23rd, 2010 at 1:31 am
top 5 bountys 100$ each
January 23rd, 2010 at 1:32 am

Congrats BadWolfOne, you’re this week’s ‘free BtB ticket’ winner!
To claim your ticket, simply click where it says “Ticket” at the top of your poker screen.
Best of luck!
January 23rd, 2010 at 6:44 pm
wow , thanks Nick , was wondering where i got that tiket from, as i didn’t play any sattelites this week
a comment on james’s blind capping idea, i think blind capping would be a bad thing as it would destroy basic danger of a tournament of the ever increasing blind
but he is right , the final few players have to gamble for the money (kinda like EPT final tables a few years back when the stack to blind ratios were much too low )
i have sugested this a few times in the past , changeing the blind structure (the levels) as all tournaments in the Macromedia network have a pretty fast structure (i’m not talking about the time that blinds increase)
i would like to propose a structure that i have played before (online) that i personally like (and many other players/friends of mine like it as well) at the left we have the structure i’m proposing and at the right the current structure, you can see the differences at higher levels are extreme:
lvl1 - 10/20 — 10/20
lvl2 - 15/30 — 15/30
lvl3 - 20/40 — 25/50
lvl4 - 30/60 — 50/100
lvl5 - 40/80 — 75/150
lvl6 - 50/100 — 100/200
lvl7 - 60/120 — 150/300
lvl8 - 80/160 — 200/400
lvl9 - 100/200 — 300/600
lvl10 - 100/200 ante 25 — 400/800
lvl11 - 125/250 25 — 500/1000
lvl12 - 150/300 50 — 600/1200
lvl13 - 200/400 50 — 800/1600
lvl14 - 250/500 50 — 1000/2000
lvl15 - 300/600 100 — 1500/3000
lvl16 - 400/800 100 — 2000/4000
lvl17 - 500/1000 100 — 3000/6000
lvl18 - 600/1200 120 — 4000/8000
lvl19 - 800/1600 160 — 5000/10000
lvl20 - 1000/2000 200 — 6000/12000
lvl21 - 1250/2500 250 — 8000/16000
and i could go on and on with this structure
i don’t even know if it is posible for you to change the structure , but if not , it is surely something that would be worth forwarding to the programing/management team of 32Red or of Macromedia network , if there is no more activity in this post , i will repost it in the next BTB post just to see if other people would like something like this, if it’s allright with you Nick
