Bach wins $50,000 H.O.R.S.E event at the WSOP
One of the more prestigious “side events” at the World Series of Poker concluded late last week. American David Bach emerged as the victor in the $50,000 buy-in H.O.R.S.E tournament to walk away with the bracelet and a cool $1.2 million in the process.
H.O.R.S.E covers five different variations of poker; Hold’em, Omaha, Razz, Seven Card Stud and Seven Card Stud Eight or Better and is generally considered the truest test of any poker players abilities.
The toughness of the competition, coupled with the large $50,000 buy-in fee may be the reason why only 95 players registered for this event. Among the 95 were some of the biggest names in poker, though. Some of the recognisable players cashing in this poker tournament were UK bracelet winner John Kabbaj in 16th place for $72.914, Tony G in 13th place for $83,630, Gus Hansen in 9th place for $123,895 and Huck Seed in 5th place for $276,609.
The Main Event is underway…
While the side events concluded in the $10,000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em main event got underway last Friday. Some huge names were eliminated early on in the proceedings including Doyle Brunson and Britain’s Vicky Coren.
Leading the pack after Day 1D is Troy Weber. Weber has amassed an astonishing 353,000 chips after one days play and already, at this early stage, looks set to go deep in this main event.
Hot on Weber’s heels are a plethora of household poker names including Josh Arieh, Dutch Boyd, Jon Kalmar, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, JC Tran and David Benyamine.
Day 2 is due to begin today and we’ll have all the news from the 2009 WSOP main event as it happens here at 32Red Poker.
Boeree beats Castello in charity boxing match
The charity boxing match between poker babes Liv Boeree and Melissa Castello, which we reported in the poker news in June, has ended with Boeree taking the honours on points after a brutal three round battle.
Boeree had a clear reach advantage on Castello and she used that to good effect, leaving Castello in trouble at various stages of the fight. A unanimous verdict in the favour of Boeree left the British star in delight and with $1,000 to give away to the charity of her choice. Castello was respectful in defeat and wins $500 for her chosen charity.
