Chip Reese’s son dies of Drug Overdose
Sad news hit the poker news wires late last week with reports that Casey Reese, talented baseball player and son of legendary poker player Chip Reese, had died. Casey, 20, was found dead in his apartment with early reports that a drug overdose was to blame.
His father Chip Reese, who is a legend in world poker circles, passed away in late 2007. Casey’s death is another cruel blow for the Reese family and their friends.
Doyle Brunson, who was especially close to Chip, commented; “It seems like yesterday when my nephew called and gave me a message that made my blood run cold, ‘I think Chip just died’ he told me.
It happened again yesterday, only this time it was Chip’s only son, Casey Reese. Casey was found in his apartment from an apparent overdose of prescription drugs. I had seen Casey a few days ago and he looked great. He was very handsome and extremely personable. I will always remember the closeness between Chip and Casey.
My deepest condolences to the Reese family. I feel like I’ve let Chip down but I don’t know what I could have done to help Casey.”
Christer Johansson wins Irish Poker Open
39 year old, Swedish poker pro’, Christer Johansson has won the 2009 Irish Poker Open. Johansson is usually an online poker cash game specialist, playing under the nickname “sendmemore”. It appears the Swedish ace was sent plenty over the weekend as he took the biggest title in Irish poker and a winner’s cheque for €600,000.
Hot on Johansson’s heels was UK poker babe Kara Scott. Scott is often seen fronting TV poker shows and is a former model. Her good looks and undoubted poker ability clearly dazzled the big turnout in Ireland as she claimed second place and €312,000 prize.
Former Mayor Jailed for stealing £60,000 to play Online Poker
49 year old Jane Armstrong-Yeomans, the former Mayor of Carlisle, has been jailed for theft of £60,000 to feed her online poker addiction. Armstrong-Yeomans was hooked on poker despite never achieving any success at the game.
At her trial, she said; “At first it was fun, but it made no sense at all because I was useless at it.”
The former Labour party councillor will serve 12 months in prison for theft and 6 months for forging her husband’s signature.
