Jens Kyllönen, 19, wins EPT Copenhagen
Jens Kyllönen, from Finland, has won the latest leg of the European Poker Tour in Copenhagen. Kyllönen beat Swedish EPT regular Peter Hedlund in a fascinating heads-up encounter to walk away with €878,000. He also becomes one of the youngest players to win a major poker title at the tender age of 19. Not since Annette Obrestad wowed the WSOPE in 2007 have we seen a teenager notch up such a prestigious poker title.
More HORSE play for Nguyen, baby!
Scotty ‘The Prince of Poker’ Nguyen has landed yet another H.O.R.S.E tournament title in the USA. Nguyen beat an impressive field of well known professionals for his $343,000 victory during the LA Poker Classic at the Commerce Casino.
Scotty also won the H.O.R.S.E event, dedicated to the recently deceased Chip Reese, at the last World Series of Poker. His victory in the $50,000 buy-in event quickly became infamous amongst poker fans for Scotty’s drunken antics. However, The Prince of Poker eventually apologised for his behaviour on that day. Reports suggest Scotty was quietly sipping mineral water during his latest victory!
H.O.R.S.E is a multi-game version of poker featuring five different variations of the game, which are:
H – Holdem
O – Omaha
R – Razz
S – Seven Card Stud
E – Eight or Better Seven Card Stud
Gus Hansen loses boxing match
Proposition bets among poker players are the stuff of legends. The bets are often bizarre but always fascinating and the amounts involved can be eye watering. Perhaps that is why the attention of many switched to Gus Hansen and Theo Jorgensen last weekend, as the Nordic duo squared up to each other in the boxing ring for three rounds.
Hansen, quite frankly, took a beating from his good friend Jorgensen but, fear not ladies, he appeared unhurt at the end of the match with his looks still intact. The judges ruled Jorgensen the winner on points and he collects $35,000 from Hansen for the pleasure of knocking him around for nine minutes.
And finally…
Moving from one green baize to another has proven to be very easy from poker dealer Martin Gould. Gould, a part time poker dealer, part time snooker player, recently took on Stephen Hendry at the Welsh Snooker Open. Remarkably, following a very tense encounter, Gould beat the former world champion 5-3.
Gould commented; “I have had a few good wins in my career but this is the best. When you are playing someone like Stephen Hendry, you have to give him a lot more respect than the average Joe Bloggs. I still deal cards every Friday night and I did it last week but, if I go much further here, I won’t be doing it this Friday of course.”
